South Korean authorities announced today that they will fine the Japanese car company Nissan for manipulating the emissions values of its popular diesel sports cars.
The official Seoul has also announced that it will order the withdrawal of a hundred Nissan "kaska" models, in which tests have determined the presence of software for manipulating data on harmful gas emissions, reports the Agence France-Presse.
"Nissan could be fined 330 million won ($280.000). Our investigation found that Nissan illegally manipulated emissions data," South Korea's Ministry of Environmental Protection said.
Testing showed that in the "Kaska" model, the device for reducing the emission of harmful gases was turned off when the vehicle temperature reached 35 degrees Celsius in order to prevent it from overheating, while other vehicles waited for the temperature to reach 50 degrees Celsius.
The South Korean Ministry also announced that with the cessation of operation of the device to reduce the emission of harmful gases in the model "Kashkai", the emission of harmful gases reaches the same or even higher level than in Volkswagen vehicles equipped with software for manipulation of exhaust gas values.
"Nissan has been given ten days to submit its opinion on this issue before Seoul officially applies punitive measures," the ministry said in a statement.
