The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is organizing the "Beamline for schools" competition for the third time in a row.
The competition, in which teams of high school students can participate, also provides the opportunity for Montenegrin high school and high school students to apply for the competition. In this team competition, students, in cooperation with their teachers, design an experiment that could be performed at CERN using accelerators, detectors and supporting equipment. Talented students together with their professors should design an experiment that would use a beam of particles from the CERN Proton synchrotron' accelerator.
Teams can consist of at least 5 high school students (they can be from different classes, different schools, etc.) aged at least 16 and at least one teacher (supervisor, physics teacher).
Students should record a one-minute video and a description of the experiment in English that they could perform at CERN, no later than March 31, 2016. CERN emphasized that they do not expect fully developed proposals for experiments. Students' motivation and creativity are very important in assessment.
Experiment proposals will be reviewed by CERN experts and the most successful teams will be invited to perform the proposed experiment at CERN.
The organizers of the competition recommend the teams to as soon as possible register, and state that they should send the experiment proposal and the video by March 31.
The winning teams will be notified in June and will perform the experiment at CERN in September.
A maximum of 9 team members and one or two supervisors can attend the experiments at CERN.
Other prizes will be awarded to short-listed teams.
All information about this competition, as well as the video, can be found at website.
