The "Academician Mijat Šuković" award was awarded yesterday to Zoran Rašović, professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro and academician of CAN.
The President of the Judicial Council, Mladen Vukčević, said that the award was given to Rašović for his special contribution to the preservation of Montenegrin legal heritage, the development of jurisprudence, ethics and culture. The award was presented to Rašović by the president of the Association of Lawyers, Branislav Radulović, who said that a nation that does not nurture a creative relationship with the achievements of its cultural and overall history is condemning itself, that it projects its future without knowledge of its identity, without effective reliance on its roots and the positive contents of its legal traditions.
"With this award, the Association of Lawyers wants to single out the best among Montenegrin lawyers and those who, with their scientific work and creativity, are the harbor of Montenegrin legal thought on the pedestal of legal science. The openness of the candidacy process, the long nomination procedure, more candidates and consensus in the selection are guarantees that this valuable recognition goes to the most deserving," said Radulović.
The award gains even more weight by the fact that skilled people decided to award it once every five years and, as it proudly sounds, "for a special contribution to the preservation of Montenegrin heritage, the development of legal science, legal awareness, legal culture, from the authoritative legal community in 1933 continuously promoting the universal values of law, Rašović said
Rašović is the winner of the Thirteenth Prize for works in the field of legal sciences, he is the former dean of the Faculty of Law, he is the author of numerous award-winning books and studies published in reputable journals, including four university textbooks. In 2016 and 2017, he published two major books published by CANU, "Bogišić's Legal Sayings - Compatibility between Roman Law and Montenegrin Folklore", as well as "Montenegro service of Valtazar Bogišić, an unfinished legal project".
The solemn assembly at the Law Faculty was attended by the deans of the law faculties of three Montenegrin universities, representatives of CANU, the Supreme State Prosecutor Ivica Stanković and the family of Mijat Šuković.
