A lunar meteorite found last year in North Africa has sold at auction for just over $600.000, according to Boston-based auction house RR Auction.
Neither the seller nor the buyer has been named, but it is known that the meteorite's new home will be the "Tam Chuc Pagoda" complex in Vietnam.
The deputy executive director of the auction house, Bobby Livingston, said that the winning bid of $612.500 came from a representative of the aforementioned complex, a tourist attraction in the southern Vietnamese province of Ha Nam.
The meteorite will be exhibited in one of the pagodas open to the public, writes Hina.
Named "Buagabe" or "Moon Puzzle", the meteorite is made up of six pieces that fit together like a puzzle into a mass weighing almost 5,5 kilograms.
On one side of the meteorite, a "partial fusion crust" is visible, created as a result of the action of heat when passing through the Earth's atmosphere.
The meteorite was "shot" from the surface of the Moon in the distant past, most likely by the impact of another meteorite, to travel 384.000 kilometers and fall to Earth, in a remote desert area of Mauritania.
On the way to Earth, he went through a "hot" journey.
