It would be good if all the barriers that divide us and separate man from man, man from knowledge and education could be erased with an eraser, said Blagoje Šturanović, a former student of the Elementary School "Mileva Lajović Lalatović" from Nikšić, but also one of the project coordinators. Equal and different”.
Until the rubber band becomes "all-powerful", former students of the aforementioned school founded an informal group of young people and "took matters into their own hands" to help the educational institution where they acquired their first knowledge get a hydraulic elevator.
Blagoje, who is a wheelchair user, knows very well what a problem architectural barriers are. He hopes that the informal group of young people as part of the mentioned project, which is implemented with the financial support of the Agency for Local Democracy, will succeed in making all the rooms in the "Mileva Lajović Lalatović" school accessible to every student.
As part of the project, an art workshop was organized led by teacher Rajko Sušić, and former students, now high school students and students talented in the field of art, made 20 paintings and organized a sales exhibition in Technopolis to collect the funds needed for the hydraulic elevator.
"We managed to influence the public's awareness of the need for mutual help and understanding, social cohesion in the local community and problem solving," Šturanović said.
"For the first time, former students of a school are gathering around the idea of helping their former school. They were joined by several former students from other elementary schools. These are works of art of inestimable value, in which humanity, philanthropy, empathy are woven. Considering that humanitarian works are not valued with money, the price of works of art is determined according to individual possibilities", said Biljana Mrkaić, one of the coordinators of the project and a psychologist at the school.
According to her, the school and the Agency for Local Democracy applied to the competition of the Ministry of Education, and they are waiting for the results of the competition. In order not to waste time, they decided to provide part of the funds for the hydraulic elevator through the project 'Same and Different'.
At the "Mileva Lajović Lalatović" school, one student uses a wheelchair, two have mild motor disabilities, and they also have visually impaired students.
The director of the school, Vera Božović, thanked the project participants who "showed once again that it is not possible to move forward without everyone's support", while the vice president of the Municipality, Sonja Nikčević, said that they not only "lent their hand for a more humane future", but have "combined the art of creation and the art of living, sharing with others"
"I think that this kind of enterprise, I have to call it that, should be followed by others, and such actions should be organized in all schools and communities. The municipality will support this action and will be one of the institutions that will participate in the auction and thereby make a modest contribution to such a large and important mission," said Nikčević.
