NASA has been experimenting with firefighting on the International Space Station since March 2009.
Since then, around 200 tests have been carried out to find out how a flame reacts in such an environment.
This research could help in cases of fires on spaceships, but it could also have practical applications on Earth.
"We hope that we will know how to better solve the problems of fires in space, that we will improve the safety of our crews and that we will get new ideas for the application of liquid fuels on Earth," said the project leader from the University of San Diego, Forman Williams. Williams added that the testing will be finished soon and that after that we will know the results.
