Tourists who come to Nikšić stay must report to the police, because they cannot do this at the local tourist organization at the moment, because their "officer in charge" is on vacation. In TO Nikšić, whose founder is the Municipality of Nikšić, they brag about the increase in the number of tourists this year, but still in the peak of the summer season no one registers guests.
Several guests complained to "Vijesta" that they had to go to the police because, as they say, they have been coming to Nikšić for years and reporting their stay to the TO, so it is not clear to them why they now have to go to the Security Center (CB), and the TO has more than enough employee.
When asked by "Vijesti" why guests are being sent to the police, the TO replied that the employee took annual leave and that there is no one to replace her. "It's nothing unusual, guests check in at CB the same way as at LTO premises," said TO.
Last year, according to Monstat data, Nikšić was visited by around 8,8 thousand tourists who spent 22,3 thousand overnight stays. In May, 1,3 thousand tourists stayed in Nikšić and spent about three thousand nights. During discussions in the Nikšić Municipality Assembly, it was pointed out that TO does not charge the residence tax in accordance with the number of visitors. For the municipality of Nikšić, the residence tax per person is 0,6 euros, and as previously announced, in 2016, TO collected only 4.518 euros on this basis. That year, 19,7 thousand overnight stays and almost 7,2 thousand arrivals in Nikšić were achieved.
On the website of TO Nikšić, which is supposed to promote the development of tourism in Nikšić, no data can be found on the number of tourists visiting that city, and there is no report on the work of TO. The last news item on the TO website was published in September 2015.
