Residents of Vrela Ribničke, located near the city landfill "Livade", claim that their health is at risk due to constant fires at the landfill.
"My daughter-in-law took the child, who was only a few months old, to the doctor and they discovered that the child had smoke in his lungs. Even the doctors were surprised," said one of the residents of the settlement, who wished to remain anonymous.
About twenty families are located in the settlement next to the landfill at Vrele Ribnički. Locals claim that they often call the fire department on their own initiative when they notice that a new fire has broken out.
"I don't think they have anywhere else to dispose of waste, so they burn it, because there are fires every day. The smoke doesn't just bother us, it bothers the whole of Konik, and sometimes the whole town", said a resident of this settlement.
Dajvid Sejdović said that fires break out in the landfill every day.
"It burns practically non-stop, and a lot of families with small children live here," said Sejdović.
Sejdović added that the locals previously, due to similar problems, organized a protest rally and prevented "Čistoće" vehicles from depositing waste. After that, their problem was solved for a while.
He believes that, if this practice continues, the locals will have to organize themselves again and point out their existence, but also the problem they have because they live near the landfill.
However, the city company "Deponija" claims that the regional landfill "Livade" is an organized municipal waste dump "where there are no fires, nor can there be fires".
"The jurisdiction of our Company's security service refers to 57 hectares that are an integral part of the Landfill, although we very often report environmental incidents to the competent services. The activities that take place in the unregulated Roma refugee camp, which is located next to the fence of the Company, and are related to the mentioned environmental incidents, are not our responsibility", they emphasized from this company.
