There are still three days left until the end of the competition for the general director of the Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG), and until yesterday there were no applications for that position.
Acting General Director Božidar Šundić told "Vijesta" that.
“I'm still thinking about whether to apply. I will decide in these two days", said Šundić when asked if he would apply himself.
At the beginning of June, the Council of the RTCG elected Šundić as the acting director after a vote of no confidence in Andrijana Kadija as head of the Public Service was voted at the previous session.
The competition for the general director was announced on October 5 and will be closed on Monday, November 5 by 16 p.m.
In addition to proof of meeting the basic requirements, such as citizenship and five years of work experience, candidates are also required to submit a program of development and operation of the RTCG during the mandate period, the competition specified.
The term of office of the general director of RTCG is four years, and he can remain in that position for another term.
Compared to previous competitions for the general director of RTCG, the possibility of a potential conflict of interest has been reduced, because future candidates will not be able to have a stake in companies engaged in the activities of the Public Service.
The RTCG Council dismissed Kadija this summer due to an allegedly disputed contract with the Center for Civic Education (CGO), which, according to the body's conclusion, enabled the editorial independence of the Public Service to be undermined. Kadija denied all the accusations.
After that process was completed, the United States and the European Union announced that this dismissal undermines the freedom of the media in Montenegro.
"The Montenegrin authorities are limited by their obligations to European values and standards. It is also completely unacceptable that an EU grant that supports the professionalism of RTCG is being misused as an argument to replace the management of RTCG," the EU statement signed by spokeswoman Maja Kocijančić states.
Media center: Dnevnik 2 again in the service of the executive power
A quarter of the articles in Dnevnik 2 in September referred to the executive power, and about two-thirds were based on fabricated information or pseudo-media events, the Media Center announced.
This, as they state in the analysis of the information program Dnevnik 2 of the Public Service, which this NGO presented yesterday, "shows a tendency for that program to be primarily in the service of the executive."
The monitoring and analysis of Dnevnik 2 was carried out in order to assess whether, as they said, RTCG "after the illegal change of the editorial and management team, shows signs of deviation from the assigned mission of serving the citizens, that is, the public interest".
"Among the contributions related to the executive power, there is not a single one that is even slightly critically intoned or deals with a topic in a deeper way," said Dragoljub Vuković, presenting the results of the Media Center's analysis.
The executive director of the Media Center, Goran Đurović, said that TVCG is still very far from providing objective, timely, balanced information to the public about events that are important to citizens.
"We will continue to give confirmation for all our positions, which speak in favor of the thesis that the Public Service has once again become a tool in the hands of the authorities and nothing more than that," said Đurović.
