An unmanned Russian cargo spacecraft successfully launched today to the International Space Station (ISS), from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The Soyuz rocket carrying the Progress MS-05 spacecraft lifted off as scheduled today at 11.58:6.58 a.m. local time (XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. CET).
This mission followed the failed launch of the previous Progres spacecraft, on December 1 last year, which crashed less than seven minutes after takeoff, with burning debris falling on sparsely populated areas in southern Siberia near the border with Mongolia.
An official Russian investigation concluded that the failed launch occurred due to a manufacturing error in the Soyuz engine.
Before today's take-off, detailed engine tests were carried out and a comprehensive check of production installations was carried out.
Russia sends such cargo aircraft to the MSS three times a year. When they complete their mission, they fall towards Earth and burn up in the atmosphere over the Pacific.
