The American specialized magazine Ward published the results of its research, which showed that at the end of 2010, there were 980 million vehicles on the planet, which means that, considering that there were no cataclysmic events on the market, at the beginning of this summer we passed that " the "magic" number of one billion.
These data are not at all surprising if we consider that the Chinese car market has been experiencing double-digit growth for the last ten years, and it is predicted that the Chinese will produce 50 million new cars per year by the end of this decade.
China still has significantly fewer cars per capita than Western countries, which means there is plenty of room for growth. In China, there is currently one vehicle for every 17 inhabitants, while in India only two people out of every hundred have a car.
If the Chinese had the same car-to-population ratio as the US, there would currently be 1,1 billion vehicles in China alone.
Such potential figures raise many ecological and ethical questions, especially about how such a quantity of exhaust gases will one day affect the environment. On the other hand, does anyone have the moral right to prevent the average Chinese or Indian from living as well as the inhabitants of the Western world?
