The Council for Civil Control of Police Work asked the Police Administration (UP) to determine whether there are abandoned dogs in the yard of a house not far from the center of Podgorica, a large number of which, allegedly, died from the winter, or in mutual fights.
In a letter to UP director Veselin Veljović, they state that it is a house owned by DV who, according to the claims of the fellow citizens who sent the report, was recently deprived of his liberty due to illegal possession of weapons and other criminal offenses.
According to the report, DV kept 40 dogs for organized fights almost in the center of Podgorica.
"Citizens point out that it is almost a well-known fact that this person has been breeding dogs for organized fights for twenty years. As he was deprived of his freedom, the dogs were left alone," the letter to Veljović states.
It also says that, according to the claims of the citizens, 40 of the 12 dogs are alive, and that the rest died from winter and hunger, as well as from mutual fights.
In the letter signed by President Zoran Čelebić, it is also stated that no one assumed that the space was left without human supervision.
From UP, on behalf of the citizens, they request that the remaining animals be placed in a shelter for abandoned animals and investigate the allegations as to whether the dogs were used for organized fights
