Everything is blamed on the nurse, we are human and we make mistakes, the mistake has been corrected and I do not blame her, I will not join the criminal prosecution.

That's how Snežana Nedić, who left the maternity hospital with baby Jovana Jovanović, spoke to the prosecutor about the defendant Žana Radović, who is accused of dismissing the wrong baby from the Clinical Center on May 15 last year.

Nedic did not appear at the trial even today, so her statement, which she gave earlier in the prosecution, was read.

Jovanović, however, today joined the criminal prosecution of Radović, stating that she experienced a great shock, from which she has not yet recovered.

The trial ended today, and the verdict will be pronounced on Friday.

Radović was accused of negligent work in the service, for which she was threatened with a fine or a prison sentence of up to three years.

Nedic previously confirmed to the prosecutor that her sister did not ask her for the number on the bracelet, nor did she show her the baby when she was discharged, and that she was also in a hurry to get home as soon as possible, because it was her second daughter's birthday.

"When we returned to Klinički, Radović was visibly upset, she cried, said that she had made a mistake, all the blame was placed on her sister, and no one from KC even called me to ask how I was," Nedic stated.

Prosecutor Zorica Milanović, in her closing words, pointed out that Radović, acting as a responsible person, acted negligently due to several omissions, which led to the separation of the child from the mother.

"She did not check whether the numbers matched, nor did she say the numbers out loud when discharging... Although there is no written procedure, the oral procedure is very clear and the procedure for discharging babies was grossly violated," concluded the prosecutor.

Radović's defense attorney, lawyer Nebojša Asanović, pointed out that Radović did not commit a criminal offense, but that she did make a mistake for which she regrets.

"This is not a criminal offense, but an inadvertent mistake by both Radović and the mother who left with someone else's baby, there is no evidence of intent or intent to commit a criminal offense," he said. He reminded that there is no prescribed written procedure for the handover of babies in the Clinical Center, that the accusation is flat-rate, and that the defendant has already been disciplinary fined for a minor breach of duty.

"In order for a criminal offense to exist, there must be a serious breach of duty...And the mother of two children, without any blemish in her life, is accused," concluded the lawyer.

The indictment charges that, as a responsible person in the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, she acted negligently when preparing the mother in labor Nedić and her newborn, and that she did not establish the matching of the identification numbers of the newborns.
