Beranac house targeted by vandals: "The police say they can't do anything, because it's a minor"

Miloš Šćekić from Berane reported to the police in that town that his house was targeted by vandals several times and expressed fear for his family due to the fact that he does not work in Berane and is often away.

It first happened at the end of January this year when, as he says, his front door was damaged.

"The wife and children were scared. Fortunately, my older brother, who lives upstairs, heard the noise and ran after the vandals who fled," said Šćekić.

He said that they believed that something similar would not happen again, but that, unfortunately, the same thing happened on the night between Friday and Saturday, when a person was standing in the yard, that is, in front of the door.

"The wife opened the door and saw a person running away. Terrified, she called me and I immediately left Tivat, where I work, for Berane. "I asked around a bit, and after checking the cameras from the neighboring buildings, because Milorad Jovančevića street, where the house is located, is very busy, I saw that it was a juvenile from the neighborhood," Šćekić said.

According to him, he immediately reported the case to the police, from where he was told that they could not do anything, because he was a minor.

Šćekić adds that he contacted the guardian of that minor, but that he also told him that he could not do anything.

He says that the only thing left for him is to file a private lawsuit, but that he does not have the financial means to pay for a lawyer.

"I do not know what to do. My son is scared, he is not allowed to go outside the house to play. "I have to go to work, and I'm afraid to leave them alone," Šćekić said.

Milorad Jovančevića street is very busy, but that doesn't seem to matter in Berane, because vandals break into houses even in the very center.

Recently, at an extraordinary session of the local parliament, when the security situation in the city was discussed, it was reported that hundreds of houses and cottages have been broken into in recent years, but that the thieves remained beyond the reach of the law.

In the case reported by Šćekić, the aggravating circumstance is that it is about a minor person or persons, and that, as the police claim, there are no elements of a criminal offense. The only thing left is to inform the Center for Social Work and for them to try to do something and stop the harassment of the Šćekić family.
