Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnić did not state at the press conference on May 10.05.2019, XNUMX that there will be no plea agreement concluded with those who have committed criminal acts in the past, that is, before the media conferences, the Special State Prosecutor's Office announced today ( SDT).
They reacted to the text Katnić reneged on his promise: Agreement on Đurđić's guilty plea submitted to the High Court.
"On that occasion, the chief special prosecutor repeated several times that he will not enter into a plea agreement in the future, except in exceptional cases, and for specific criminal offenses - the creation of a criminal organization for the purpose of committing criminal offenses of tax and contribution evasion. In the case that caused media attention (the case of former executive director of Atlas bank Đorđe Đurđić - cf. Vijesti online), the conclusion of a plea agreement was proposed for another criminal offense, committed before May 10, i.e. before the media conference," the SDT press release states .
The press release adds that, for the sake of precisely informing the public, they remind that at the press conference, Katnić specifically stated: "Further proceedings, that is, the proceedings of the SDT, will no longer be based, without exception, on the admission of guilt, for all those perpetrators who, from today , continue and in the future engage in or attempt or commit these criminal acts. Let me say the Latin nota bene so that everyone remembers it well. especially those who would reach out to commit criminal acts in the future, that we will in the future, so we will no longer, without exception, to use this plea agreement, we will use everything, including the most radical methods and the legal possibility, to propose the most severe prison sentences to the Court, to be imposed precisely because of the seriousness of the crimes and the perpetrators, who would commit despite all these activities, which are serious criminal offenses where a prison sentence of 2 to 12 years or 2 to 8 years is threatened".
The SDT stated that they remain open to providing the media, before publication, with additional explanations in all situations where there is insufficient understanding, in order to avoid misinformation and misleading the public.
