Priest Goran D. Kimpanov from Zrenjanin concluded a plea agreement with the High State Prosecutor's Office and that document was submitted to the High Court for decision, it was confirmed by "Vijesti" yesterday.

He agreed to be sentenced to six months of house arrest, due to the tragedy at the confluence of the Morača River with Skadar Lake, when four people died after the boat overturned on February 3, 2019.

"Vijesti" was confirmed by the court in Podgorica that the agreement was submitted to them for consideration.

"We inform you that the aforementioned plea agreement has been submitted to the court," Aida Muzurović, independent advisor for public relations of the High Court, told "Vijesta". The trial of Kimpanov, whose sacred name is Neofit, was postponed at the request of his legal representative, lawyer Jugoslav Krpović.

He told "Vijesta" that before the main hearing, he asked the court for a postponement due to obligations in the detention case.

At the hearing to examine the legality of the indictment, lawyer Krpović suggested that the court declare itself incompetent to act on the indictment and said that if they do not do so, then at least they should issue a decision stating that there is no room for accusations and to suspend the proceedings against Kimpanov: "Because there is not enough evidence that the defendant is reasonably suspicious".

The lawyer then stated that the legally unacceptable allegations of the indictment - that he committed a criminal offense with intent - are a serious offense against general security.

He stated that it is an indisputable fact that his client was steering the boat and that it is an indisputable fact that the boat overturned due to strong waves caused by a sudden wind, when Ratko, Jana and Nina Kumburović and Darko Vujošević drowned.

"It is an indisputable fact that he operated the vessel without a license to sail, and that he operated the vessel without life jackets for all passengers, as required by law. But it is incorrect that on that occasion he caused a danger to people's lives with a generally dangerous action and means, when the death of several people occurred, while he was aware that he could do the act and that he agreed to it," Krpović pointed out at the time.
