The trial of Aleksandar Konatar, accused of killing basketball player Ljubo Jovanović during the robbery of the "Montenegro Lottery" betting shop in Cetinje on June 30, 2011, continued today in the High Court in Podgorica. In this case, the defendants are Nikola Vuletić and Konatar, for committing the criminal offense of robbery, and the defendant Konatar is charged with the criminal offense of murder.
Mirko and Ratko Vuletić, brothers of the defendant Nikola Vuletić, testified today, who stated that their brother left Montenegro for Spain in 2006, got a job and started a family. The court asked them what color their brother's eyes were. Mirko said that they were dark green, and Ratko that Nikola had light green eyes.
"My brother Nikola went to work in Alicante, Spain, on a construction site with the same boss, both then and now. He married a girl from Cetinje, they have three children. He came to Cetinje on December 12, 2017, with his family, and returned to Spain on Christmas 2018. Here he arranged his papers, ID card and passport, passed his driving test. Nikola always called me by mobile phone occasionally as well as my mother, or from the pay phone, from Alicante. When he came to Cetinje in 2017, he did not have a mobile phone, but used it from his wife Jelena. Sometimes he would send 50 and sometimes 100 euros from Spain to his mother and father, and to his older brother, who is unemployed," said Mirko Vuletić.
Yesterday, he also told the court about his meeting with Vasilij Todorović, who testified in this trial.
"He came to my shop where I work in Cetinje. It was in February 2019. He told me that the police are pressuring him to say something about my brother, the defendant Nikola, and that if anything comes of it, he will deny it in the newspaper tomorrow. He said that he had to say it, and he wouldn't say it, so if he said it, they would deny it. He said not to worry and to say hello to my parents. This pain has befallen us and this story for a year and two months, I would not wish it on anyone. I am ready to face Todorović, as well as to take a polygraph," said Mirko Vuletić. His story, when Nikola went to Spain and when he returned to Cetinje, was also confirmed by Ratko Vuletić.
Lawyer Boris Marinović, Konatar's defense attorney, noted that this testimony confirmed that the meeting did not take place between Todorović and Vuletić.
The prosecutor, defense lawyers, representatives of the Jovanović family and the representative of the injured family had no objections.
The trial continues on November 20.
