The High Court rejected Damir Mandić's request for parole

The council of the president of the Podgorica High Court, Boris Savić, rejected as unfounded the request of Damir Mandić, convicted of complicity in the murder of the editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper "Dan", Duško Jovanović, with which he requested a conditional discharge.

This was confirmed to Television News from several sources.

Television Vijesti has learned that the reason for the refusal is the negative assessment of the security of the Police Administration.

Mandić's request was considered on May 29.

Suzana Milić, the state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, then opposed the adoption of conditional discharge, pointing out that the purpose of punishment would not be achieved, especially if one takes into account the level of the threatened sentence and the difficult circumstances that are particularly reflected in the way the murder was carried out, the victim of this crime Duško Jovanović.

Ivana Vujović, representative of the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, said that the position of that institution is that the conditions for parole have been met.

The same opinion was expressed by Mandić's defense attorney, lawyer Stefan Jovanović, who said that the conditions for parole had been met, despite the fact that the Criminal Police Department did not give a positive security assessment.

He reminded that this assessment of the police is not a decisive fact when making the decision of the court, reminding the court panel of a case known as the "Ferraris case" in which the application for parole was accepted despite having a negative assessment of the police.

In October 2015, the criminal panel of the Higher Court in Podgorica sentenced Damir Mandić to a single sentence of 19 years in prison for complicity in the murder of the editor of "Dan" Duško Jovanović, the attempted murder of his bodyguard Milorad Mirović and the kidnapping of Miodrag Nikolić, which is already a final verdict of December 27, 2006.

The court sentenced Mandić to 18 years for participating in the murder and two years for the kidnapping, after which he was sentenced to a single sentence.
