Zeković: The situations in the municipalities acted as a rebellion against the state

Last night's situations in municipalities in Montenegro acted as a rebellion against the state of Montenegro and the application of police powers in such circumstances cannot stop, said the president of the Council for Civil Control of Police Work, Aleksandar Saša Zeković.

He said that the legitimate actions of the police should be protected and not compromised by the use of disproportionate force and means of coercion, as this endangers the interests of the security of citizens and the state, and its reputation.

"Many citizens on social networks have expressed interest in the Council for Citizen Control of Police Work and in my position on tonight's events in several Montenegrin municipalities in the context of police actions. In some cases, it was also pressure, so I can say that I will not agree to instrumentalization and manipulation of any kind. In my case, when it comes to the protection of human rights and freedoms, the standard of behavior and approach is always the same, regardless of the situation, because human rights are indivisible and all equally important. Those who call me names and spit on me the most tonight often have the same problem with that. This shows that there is no fair and objective relationship, nor a human approach, but mainly naked interests, which are expressed in their own way. I support and should protect the legitimate actions of the police and not compromise them by using disproportionate force and means of coercion, because that is how endangers the interests of the security of the citizen and the state, and its reputation.The situations in the municipalities acted as a rebellion against the state of Montenegro. The application of police powers in such circumstances cannot stop," said Zeković after last night's events in Podgorica, Budva, Bar, Nikšić and Berane.

All those who think that the Montenegrin Police should withdraw in relation to the "spontaneous event of the people" are deceiving themselves, he said.

"In all these legitimate operations, the Police is obliged not to use disproportionate force - but when active resistance stops, repression also stops. When resistance is overcome, with necessarily proportionate force, the further use of any coercion stops. Police activities were in accordance with circumstances and regulations, and police officers who compromised police activities should be recognized and sanctioned. The Council for Citizen Control of Police Work will consistently continue to protect the rights of all citizens, noting that it has a legal but also a moral responsibility to recognize attacks on police officers. they themselves are at the limit of endurance due to continuous exposure to insults, attacks and humiliation. We have received certain video material. We will act quickly and efficiently, and invite citizens who are victims to come forward because witnesses of these events have already contacted us. Unique "we are of the opinion that because of all the events, it is necessary to finally convene the Committee for Security and Defense of the Parliament of Montenegro, so that in that format, with the participation of the Council, all police interventions could be discussed in a reasoned manner," concluded Zeković.
