KCCG does not have procedures for discharging babies

The former director of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic, Vojislav Miketić, claims that the system of releasing babies in the Clinical Center (KCCG) is good and has been functioning the same way for decades, but that only nurse Žana Radović, who has been doing this job for twenty years, knows what it is like for Snežana Nedić in labor fired with someone else's baby.

Testifying at yesterday's hearing, he said that the rate of dismissals is good and that they are the same as at other clinics in the region.

Miketić explained to judge Radet Ćetković what the procedure for discharging babies is, that the baby receives a bracelet from birth with the same number as the mother, and that there is little chance of a mistake, because the number is controlled by both the mother and the experienced nurse who discharges the baby.

When asked by Radović's legal representative - lawyer Nebojša Asanović, he said that the clinic he headed, like no other medical institution in Montenegro, was not accredited, which is why they do not have written regulations and protocols.

"By that I mean a professional, intercollegiate consolidation of everything that happens in that institution - complete procedures of what services you can get there, in what way and under what conditions those services are obtained. "No medical institution in Montenegro is accredited, so it does not have a license to provide these services," explained Miketić.

He, on the other hand, disputed Asanović's statement that the fact that the institution is not accredited means that it does not meet international medical standards. Miketić claims that patients receive the same services as everywhere else in the world.

"Our surgery is the same as in New York. It cannot be otherwise," he said.

He explained that there are no written rules and protocols, but that the knowledge of older colleagues is passed on to younger colleagues verbally and through practice, and that this is how everything has been working in KCCG for decades.

"In the case of Žana Radović, it is a banal practice, while the problem is that there are no clearly prescribed rules for some more serious activities - for example, surgery," said Miketić.

He claims that this system is good, but that Radović's mistake is an exception.

Radović was accused of negligent work in the service, because on May 15 of this year she dismissed the wrong baby from the Clinical Center.

The indictment charges that, as a responsible person in the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, she acted negligently when preparing the mother in labor Nedić and her newborn, and that she did not establish the matching of the identification numbers of the newborns.

The next hearing is scheduled for February 27, when Nedić will be called as a witness.

She did not appear at yesterday's hearing, and Ćetković said that she was not served with the summons because she was not found at the "agreed address".

Prosecutor Ana Radović requested before the judge's decision that Nedić be excluded as a witness due to family problems and considering that she did not join the prosecution, and she gave a detailed statement in the Basic State Prosecutor's Office.

Asanović opposed that proposal because he believes that the witness is important because of Miketić's statement that the nurse and the mother share responsibility.
