The defense of Atlas Group president and businessman Duško Knežević announced today that the warrants for the defendants in the "coup" trial, Aron Shaviv and Joseph Asad, were canceled by the decision of the Commission for the Control of International Warrants due to the prevailing political dimensions of the cases, in which decision it was clearly stated that issuing a warrant for these persons served Montenegro for politically motivated activities, which Interpol, as a neutral international organization, cannot and must not allow.
"These circumstances are absolutely clear to the entire public, except for Milivoj Katnić, who unfortunately is the head of the Special State Prosecutor's Office in Montenegro," the Knežević defense statement on the occasion points out. statement of the Special State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro dated August 21, 08, in which Katnić stated that he would seek clarification from Interpol, regarding the cancellation of warrants for Knežević, Šaviv and Asad
In the statement of Knežević's defense, which is signed by lawyer Zdravko Đukanović, it is added that Katnić's statement that he will request an explanation from Interpol is a vague, incomprehensible and legally irrelevant position.
"What is clearly seen from the context of Milivoj Katnić's statement from August 21.08.2020, XNUMX, is that he, as a special state prosecutor, is angry and dissatisfied that the Interpol regulatory body observed in the control procedure that in all three cases it is a question of politically rigged processes. the behavior of the man who is at the head of the SDT is completely equal to the behavior in which a student who is dissatisfied with the disciplinary punishment of the school's teaching council would ask the director for an explanation as to why he was disciplined", said Knežević's lawyers.
The announcement states that this kind of behavior has another serious consequence, which, as it says, consists in severely damaging Montenegro's reputation in Interpol.
"Namely, situations in which the Interpol Commission for the Control of International Warrants cancels and deletes them from the Interpol system are extremely rare, and in a short period of time, due to the prevailing political dimension of the cases, this body canceled three warrants from the SDT in Podgorica. Instead of following such decisions, it made a clear the conclusion that this kind of work of the SDT, which he has been at the head of for the last few years, is unacceptable, he decides to keep a distorted legal reason that was imposed on him by the executive power in Montenegro, and he accepted and carried it out. This kind of denial of reality will not help Milivoj Katnić either nor to his principals from the executive branch, since the decisions of the Commission are irrevocable, and the warrants issued by the SDT against these three persons are no longer in the Interpol system of international warrants," the statement concludes.
