The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić dismissed the criminal charges filed by the Podgorica Criminal Police Department against Deacon Konstantin Dojić and his wife Jolanta.
The spouses were suspected of having committed the criminal acts of inducement to certify false content and service with money.
"The decision states that there is no well-founded suspicion that they have committed the above-mentioned criminal offenses or any other criminal offense that is being prosecuted ex officio. The spouses were unfairly suspected of trying to fulfill their civil obligation and provide temporary residence for their minor son", it is stated on the website of the Eparchy of Budimljansko-Nikšić.
Konstantin Dojić and his minor son spent seven days at the Ilino Brdo border crossing, from June 25.06. until 01.07. in 2020, because the border police refused to allow them to enter Montenegro on the basis of family reunification.
The Police Administration then said that they were not allowed to enter because they are citizens of Canada, which is not on the list of countries whose residents can enter Montenegro without restrictions, given the circumstances caused by the corona virus.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs annulled the aforementioned decision on appeal.
"In this case, as in other similar cases of persecution of the Orthodox clergy, the Office of the Protector of Human Rights objected with a recommendation against this kind of action by the Police Administration. We hope that this ends the period of persecution of monks, clergy and members of their families by the Police Administration and that in the coming period, the instruments of force will be used more effectively and for the benefit of all citizens of Montenegro," the website of the Diocese states.
