The wave of violence, which has been registered in Montenegro these days, must be suppressed, said the institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms and strongly condemned yesterday's attack on a member of the LGBT Forum Progres.
The institution of the Protector said that, in the communication that ombudsman Siniša Bjeković had today with the representative of that organization, they were informed of the details of the event and were "humanly disturbed and horrified by the fact that any personal characteristic can be the reason for such a hate crime".
They reminded that members of the LGBTIQ population have been exposed to hate speech, harassment and attacks on the Internet for a long time.
"Now such an atmosphere has spread to the streets, and it is something that is unacceptable and that we as a society must oppose," the statement said.

The institution of the Protector said that the wave of violence that has been registered in Montenegro these days must be suppressed, as the Protector has continuously pointed out in the last few years.
"All the more so because in the background there is a motive based on the personal characteristics of the citizen that deeply offends the dignity, physical and psychological integrity of the victim," stated the institution of the Protector.
They said that they expect the competent authorities to react effectively and prosecute the perpetrators.
