Even after six months, the police have not been able to find the car with which Ivica Božović (29) was hit on October 41 at the pedestrian crossing on Bulevar Stanko Dragojevića in Podgorica.
Božović died a few days after the accident as a result of his injuries.
The Police Directorate said today that their officers did not find an injured pedestrian on the spot after the reported accident, because he was previously transported to the Emergency Block, but neither did the driver, who fled after the accident.
After the expert examination, they suspected Mijat Beljkaš (24) that he was "most likely" driving the "Audi A6" with registration number PG-JA381, with which the now deceased Božović was knocked down.
MB is on the run, and the police claim that they have operational information on where he is hiding and that they are cooperating with colleagues from the region on his arrest.
His brother Matija Beljkaš (31) was arrested for concealing evidence.
"The seized material traces from the scene were sent to the Forensic Center in Danilovgrad for expert examination. Also, video recordings from surveillance cameras in Stanko Dragojevića Boulevard, video recordings from city cameras and possible paths of movement of the unidentified driver and vehicle were collected. Regarding the circumstances of the accident in question, are notifications from witnesses, as well as from members of the suspect's immediate family. Based on the measures and actions taken, officers of the Podgarica Security Center came to the basis of suspicion that the traffic accident was caused by a passenger motor vehicle of the brand 'Audi A 6', registration number PG-JA381, which was most likely driven by a BM (1997), in such a way that he did not comply with traffic regulations and endangered the life and body of the injured IB, who died," said Igor Ivanović, assistant commander at the Traffic Safety Police Station.
They explained that a criminal complaint was filed against him in the regular procedure - for crimes of serious offense against the safety of public traffic from Art. 348, paragraph 4. in connection with article 339 paragraph 3 in connection with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro, in conjunction with the criminal offense of failure to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident from article 347 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro.
"A local warrant has been issued for the mentioned person and the vehicle. The person and the vehicle have not been found and the officers of CB Podgorica are intensively taking all measures and actions in order to find them".
Prosecutor Vukas Radonjić explained to journalists why today's press conference was called.
"I believe that this is not a precedent, which is why the press conference was organized, because it is not about an ordinary traffic accident, it is about a traffic accident in which one participant was killed, and the other left the scene of the accident and is still being searched for. We before above all, we have a human obligation to the injured family, and also a professional obligation to the citizens of Montenegro to present everything we have established in the course of the investigation so far," said prosecutor Vukas Radonjić.
He said that the police and the prosecutor's office worked continuously in that case from October last year until now, and that they collected evidence and data about the drivers and the vehicle.
"At one stage of the procedure, we had difficulties, in the sense that the family members of the suspect somehow obstructed and made it difficult for the detection and prosecution authorities to collect evidence and data, but this finally resulted in the fact that, apart from the criminal report against the suspect for serious crimes against traffic safety and failure to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident, the investigation also resulted in a criminal complaint being filed against the own brother of the suspect in the traffic accident for the criminal offense of preventing evidence," said prosecutor Radonjić
