Burić: Abazović would like to demote the Prosecutor's Office in front of the international community

Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Dražen Burić said that the messages of Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović from yesterday's press conference are surprising, that prosecutors cannot follow the will of the Government to fight organized crime.

He believes that Abazović's statement is politically motivated with the aim of degrading the State Prosecutor's Office and the intention to present to the international community that this institution is acting unprofessionally.

"Due to the fact that the results of the work of the State Prosecutor's Organization are trying to be diminished, ignored, and the institution itself discredited, which is confirmed by the messages of the Deputy Prime Minister from the press conference held on August 30.08.2021, XNUMX, for the sake of the public, we note that the pre-criminal proceedings are managed by the State Prosecutor's Office and that in accordance with According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, the state prosecutor issues binding orders and directly directs the actions of the police and other authorities," Burić said in his response.

This means, as he explained, that the action of confiscating 1.400 kilograms of cocaine was also managed by the State Prosecutor's Office, specifically the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica.

"That's why the Deputy Prime Minister's messages that 'prosecutors cannot follow the will of the Government of Montenegro to fight organized crime' are surprising, bearing in mind the fact that the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica in the specific case of confiscation of large quantities of the narcotic drug cocaine, in accordance with the legal powers, professionally and responsibly coordinated with the Police Administration in the activities of confiscation of drugs and deprivation of liberty of two persons, all to the extent that it received information from the Police Administration."

"Without the intention of engaging in populist debates and the need to attribute the achieved results exclusively to the executive power, we note that the State Prosecutor's Office, regardless of daily political or any other circumstances, will remain unique and consistent in the realization of the competences prescribed by the Constitution and the law, which is the prosecution perpetrators of criminal offenses and other punishable offenses who are prosecuted ex officio", says Burić.

He reminded of the legally prescribed norm that the work of the State Prosecutor's Office may not be carried out under anyone's influence and that no one may influence the State Prosecutor's Office in the performance of its work.
