The defense attorneys of Budimir and Marina Krstović offered the Podgorica High Court a bail of almost 2.500.000 euros, to let them stand free from charges of smuggling 1,2 tons of cocaine.
In two separate proceedings - first the accused Budimir, and then his daughter Marina, promised before the judge that they would not run away if they were released and that they would not interfere with the court proceedings in any way.
Television Vijesti reports that Krstović's defense attorneys believe that there is no reason not to approve the motion for bail.
High Court judge Vesna Kovačević announced that she will make a decision by the end of the week.
The defense attorney of Budimir Krstović, lawyer Dragoljub Đukanović, told TV Vijesti that he offered bail in the amount of one million and 200 thousand euros for his client:
"Which consists of a mortgage on a family house located in the village of Mojanovići and on bonds, that is, securities located in CKB bank".
The defense attorney of his daughter Marina, lawyer Stefan Jovanović, explained that the proposed bail for her was submitted for the total amount of 1,250.000 euros:
"Which consists in constituting a mortgage on real estate owned by the Krstović family".
Along with the bail, Krstović's defense attorneys suggested to the High Court that, if necessary, impose some of the surveillance measures on their defendants - confiscation of travel documents, prohibition to leave the place of residence, daily reporting to the competent state authority or prohibition to leave the apartment with electronic surveillance.
Jovanović pointed out that the behavior of the accused Marina Krstović from the first day, i.e. her willingness to cooperate and the fact that she made herself available to the competent authorities, that she passed the polygraph, was free for two days that she did not use to escape, says enough that the proposal for bail established.
His colleague Đukanović also pointed out that the defendant Budimir was in Belgrade when cocaine was found in their warehouse and that he came immediately.
"After their release, they both went home, where the judge ordered for the investigation, which shows their maximum cooperation. The indictment has been confirmed and we expect the trial to take place soon... We are absolutely sure that they will prove their innocence," said Đukanović. .
The start of the Krstović trial is scheduled for the last day of February.
The indictment of senior prosecutor Tanja Božović accuses them of smuggling 1.206 kilograms of cocaine, found in their warehouse in the Zeta village of Mojanovići, near Podgorica.
