Members of the Revenue and Customs Administration (UPC) and the Special Police Department (SPO) prevented the smuggling of a large amount of cigarettes in the Port of Bar today, "Vijesti" has learned.
According to that information, cigarettes were found in a container that should have contained glasses, according to what was reported to the authorities.
It is a joint action of the UPC headed by Rado Milošević and the Special State Prosecutor's Office (STP), on whose orders SPO inspectors are acting. Predrag Šuković was elected as the new head of that police department at the beginning of May.
The Vijesti source explained that the UPC, in cooperation with the Economic Crime Sector of the Police Administration, has been monitoring the situation in that case for several days, after operational data indicated the possibility of smuggling of tobacco products...
It was explained that these are not cigarettes stored in the Port of Bar, but newly arrived goods...
On Saturday, the customs officers seized around 145.000 packs of cigarettes stored in the Port of Bar, the value of which is more than tens of millions of euros, after the deadline for taking out the goods had expired.
The UPC announced yesterday that a working group has been formed that will determine the best model for storing confiscated tobacco products in accordance with the law.
They reminded that on January 1, 2022, on the date of entry into force of the Decision on the prohibition of storage of tobacco products in the territory of the "Luka Bar" Free Zone, 13 companies had cigarettes and other tobacco products in stock.
