The Council for Citizen Control of Police Work announced that to date "it has taken into action a total of nine complaints about the behavior of the police in Nikšić during the celebration of the Statehood Day, July 13".
They said they demand "a list of officials who used chemical means of coercion".
"Previously, complaints were presented by citizens JM and Ž.K. from Nikšić, citizen MR from Kolašin and citizen Ranka Božović from Nikšić, who in the meantime submitted detailed and extensive medical documentation confirming serious bodily injuries caused by illegal treatment for the now unknown official of the police who fired a tear gas cartridge directly at her," the statement said.
They add that "the citizens of MS from Podgorica, JP, S.Š, GP and V.Đ. from Nikšić, asked to determine whether the actions of the policemen in Nikšić were professional and legal".
"They also requested that it be determined whether their powers were exceeded in the treatment of citizens who celebrated the national holiday without disturbing public order and peace, and whether due to the failure to take timely and sufficient measures, the police endangered their safety when they allowed rioters, as a counter- demonstrators, to approach and make contact with the holiday celebrants and thus disrupt public order and peace on a larger scale and stop their gathering/celebration," the announcement reads.
They conclude that the Council was informed by the citizens that the Department for Internal Control of the Police has started acting on complaints received by the Citizen Control of the Police.
