The President of Prava Montenegro, Marko Milačić, announced that the decision of the High Court to accept a bail of 6,2 million euros and let Petar Lazović stand free will be remembered "as one of the more scandalous decisions of the Montenegrin judiciary".
"While several members of the criminal organization are on the run, one of the organizers is released on bail, the amount of which offends the common sense of every citizen of Montenegro, and should offend the court as well. The amount of six million and two hundred thousand euros would had to be the best evidence of how much individuals, under the auspices of the previous regime, earned from crime, and the court had to reject the award of this amount for moral and any other reason," says Milačić's statement.
The leader of Prava also states that it is clear that this is an amount that the family of a person accused of organizing a criminal organization, "according to the available data from property records, could not earn in a legal way".
"Although bail is an institute that is a legal guarantee of the smooth conduct of criminal proceedings and the release of those against whom it is being conducted, such decisions and such sums inevitably give the impression that we are still trapped in Medenica's judiciary, in which there are parts that will the price to protect members of organized crime, even if by accepting bail, the amount of which proves that those who give bail are members of organized crime," Milacic concluded.
