The Prosecutor's Council made the decision to address the Initiative to the chief special prosecutor Vladimir Novović, the head of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, Lepa Medenica, as well as the heads of the basic prosecutor's offices in Podgorica and Kolašin, with the request that they submit all reports and notifications on the actions of prosecutors in all cases of devastation of riverbeds. and springs during the illegal exploitation of gravel.
The member of the Prosecutor's Council, Stevo Muk, at the beginning of the session of that body, requested that this item be included in the agenda in order to send a request to the prosecutor's offices to provide them with data on those cases in the period from 2018 to 2023.
"We already talked about this in a previous session, and in connection with a complaint related to that problem, so I want to formulate it a little more concretely so that they would request such information. We have media captions and conflicting information about the actions of state authorities, so I think that we should get information about the actions of the prosecutors," Muk said.
TS members accepted his proposal, after which this item was included in the agenda.
The TS Secretariat was tasked by the TS to formulate an official request in order to receive from the SDT, the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, as well as the basic prosecutor's offices in Podgorica and Kolašin, all precise data on the number of filed cases, criminal reports, indictments and decisions which were brought in connection with the illegal exploitation of gravel in the past four years.
In the second half of January, the Government repeatedly emphasized that they are determined to stop the illegal exploitation of gravel from the riverbeds, especially Morača. In August, the Information on this issue was also adopted, and then it was announced that it would ban the exploitation of all watercourses in Montenegro and the involvement of all state authorities in this problem.
Due to the fact that the gravel has been extracted from the river beds for years, the abundance of the key water source that supplies the Montenegrin coast - Bolje sestre - is threatened.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Filip Adžić, recently announced, after the arrest of the owner of "Tehnoput", Saša Aćimić, that he will protect the banks of rivers and water sources, and that for this reason they are also thinking about engaging the Army, which is why the VCG helicopter was used to monitor the rivers.
After that, a binding instruction was given to the Police Directorate that mixed teams control the riverbeds in order to stop the illegal extraction of gravel and further devastation.
