Police in Serbia arrested KM (1975) who is suspected of forest theft in Petnjica.
"A joint action by members of the border police of Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia successfully revealed the perpetrator of the crime of forest theft in the Petnjica Sub-Division, in the GJ 'Mrtvica-Tivran' in department 59a, in which the employees of the Forest and Hunting Management Administration found illegal logging. on the field, on February 02, 2023, 44 illegally cut fir trees with a total amount of 56,48 m³ of gross wood mass were found, of which 37 fir trees with a gross wood mass of 47,4 m³ are state-owned, while the remaining seven trees are firs with a total gross timber mass of 9,08 m³ in private property. All the felled timber was alienated, i.e. driven away from the site, while the visible tracks of tractor tires led towards the state of Serbia, towards the municipality of Tutin, the place of Suvi Do", the Administration announced for managing forests and hunting grounds.
They state that the officials of that Administration immediately informed the Prosecutor's Office in Berane, the police in Petnjica, the Border Police - Berane, as well as the forest administration in Tutin, of the established situation on the ground, from which "urgent assistance and mutual communication were requested, all with the aim of finding the perpetrator of a criminal offense and stopping and repeating such illegal actions".
"Through the prompt joint action of the officers of the border police of Montenegro and Serbia, the stolen mass of wood was successfully found in the town of Boroštica, municipality of Sjenica, while the person KM (1975), who is suspected of having committed this act, was detained by the police of the Republic of Serbia and handed over to the prosecutor's office for the purpose of making a statement and further processing," the announcement states.
The Management of Forests and Hunting Grounds will, as they pointed out, intensify controls on the ground in the coming period, with the aim of preventing illegal activities in the forests.
"This case should be an example of how, thanks to the good and efficient cooperation of the competent authorities, it is possible to detect, sanction and prosecute persons who carry out illegal activities in the forests, which is why we expect that in the coming period this cooperation will also be strengthened at the state level, which will stop put an end to illegal activities in the forests and protect them in the way they deserve," the statement concluded.
