Montenegro shows its resilience and is ready to deal with all types of crime and those people who, whether inside or outside the system, do illegal work, said Prime Minister Dritan Abazović on Twitter.
Assistant Director of the Police Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Dejan Knežević, was arrested last night due to his alleged association with part of a recently arrested group, which the Special Prosecutor's Office charges with creating a criminal organization and drug smuggling. Last night, the offices in the part of the building used by the management of that institution were also searched.
Abazović, who is visiting Washington, said in a statement to TVCG that the administration is getting rid of "people who are connected to illegal activities".
"What has been happening in recent days in Montenegro, the breaking up of the drug cartel of the Kavac clan, within the Police Directorate or at the very top, is the result of intensive cooperation with Europol, but also with other international agencies. You know that the DEA and the FBI are involved in breaking up the international criminal chain related to cocaine smuggling, and I think we owe them a lot of gratitude... These are signs that Montenegro is recovering, that the administration is getting rid of people who are connected to illegal activities and that will enable us to make economic and political progress", said Abazović, as reported by Portal RTCG.
