From Friday to Monday, police officers arrested 17 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol, the Police Administration announced.
It is stated that the officers of the South Regional Security Center, due to the increased frequency of traffic and other circumstances accompanying the beginning of the tourist season, implemented the local action "Intensified traffic control".
"The local action was carried out on the most frequent and violation-laden roads in the area of responsibility of this Regional Security Center from Friday to Monday," the announcement says.
The police said that, based on a previous analysis of the traffic safety situation, with special reference to the beginning of the tourist season with all the characteristic events and circumstances, a plan was prepared for the implementation of activities aimed at safe and smooth traffic flow.
According to them, 123 misdemeanor reports were filed, 357 misdemeanor warrants were issued, six pairs of license plates were confiscated, and 724 drivers were breathalyzed.
As stated by the police, 79 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, 17 of whom were arrested because they had over one per thousand of alcohol in their blood.
