The trial of Ilir Đokaj, accused of murdering Šejla Bakija (19) and wounding her father Šaban (42), on the Karabuško polje in Tuzi, continued today in the High Court in Podgorica with the hearing of witness Marija Đokaj, the mother of the accused Ilir.
The higher prosecutor's office filed an indictment against Đokaj for the criminal offenses of aggravated murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons and explosive materials delivered. According to the indictment, Đokaj is accused of murdering Šejla Bakija in front of her family home in Tuzi on September 30, 2021, at 15.15:XNUMX p.m., and then wounding her father Šaban Bakija.
Marija Đokaj stated that Šejla Bakija and her son Ilir broke off their relationship because of religion.
"As for Šejlina's life with Ilira, what I know when they lived in our house, they got along very well. That was a great love, she worshiped in our house. It didn't bother us at all. It was just the best. I know that Ilir later went to live with Šejla in Budva. On the day they broke up, Šejla called me and said that she had divorced Ilir, that maybe she was also to blame for that, that she knew what was going to happen now. "She told me that Šabo Bakija, her father, will take her to Germany in seven to ten days, put a scarf on her head and lock her up," the mother of the accused Ilir Đokaj said today.
She added that after her son Ilir returned from Budva after breaking up with Šejla, he was in a bad state.
"He didn't eat or drink. He was just in bed. He said that he only wanted Šejla," Marija Đokaj stated and added.
"My daughter-in-law said they broke up because of religion."
On the day of the murder, she drank coffee in the morning and noticed that her son Ilir got up early. "Ilir told me that he wanted to see for "my Sheila", thinking that he saw for their love, and to go to Cetinje for the university. Šejla told me that she loves Ilir and since we have a picture of Romeo and Juliet in the house, Šejla told me that because of her love with Ilir, she will end up like Juliet," said Marija Đokaj.
In the explanation of the indictment, it is stated that Đokaj persecuted Šejla because she refused to renew the broken extramarital relationship. It is added that he sent her messages through fake profiles and threatened her. The defendant came in front of her family home and shot Sheila with a gun of an unknown brand after she told him that she did not want to live with him and that she did not love him.
"In the presence of her father, the defendant Đokaj fired five projectiles at her, from which she was injured on the same day," the indictment reads.
It is added that after firing the fatal shots, Šejla Bakija's father approached Đokaj and tried to grab his hand, but the accused turned the gun towards him and fired a projectile into his chest. After that, Đokaj got into his car and fired two more shots at Šaban Bakija, one of which hit him in the stomach.
Šaban Bakija told the investigation that Šejla and their entire family were in fear because Đokaj drove his car around their house endlessly.
At the end of July last year, he also broke into Baki's house, after which they contacted Toni Đokaj, the accused's older brother, who said that he did not know what to do except send his brother to a mental institution. The accused broke into Baki's house several more times, and the last time he said: "This will not end like this".
He added that since Đokaj, Šejla did not even dare to go to the store.
On August 26, 2021, the defendant broke into Baki's house and threatened them "that blood will be spilled, that it will not end like that because Šejla will not be anyone's but his," according to the indictment.
The state prosecutor objected to the statements
State Prosecutor Ana Radović at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica had objections to the testimony of Marija Đokaj, considering that it was given in order to help her son.
The brother of the accused, Agrom Đokaj, said that his twin brother Ilir Đokaj complained to him.
"He told me: "Be careful, that they don't replace you somewhere with me, Shabo Bakija and his aunt's brother". He told me that Shabo told him then to leave Sheila. I was bypassing them. Even after the murder, I didn't meet them," he said.
He added that Ilir Đokaj told him that Šejla Bakija was not guilty and that she had not reported him earlier and that she had sent him a message that her father had reported him.
The prosecutor also objected to his testimony, stating that it was calculated to help the accused brother.
He added that he knows that on the day when the murder happened, Ilir Đokaj went to Baki to reconcile, that this was his intention and that others told him after this event.
