The higher court in Podgorica rejected the bail of the family of the former director of the Police Directorate Veselin Veljović in the amount of 928.000 euros in real estate and cash in order for this suspect to defend himself against the accusations of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) that he abused his official position.

This was confirmed to Vijesti by Marija Raković, independent advisor for public relations of the High Court.

She added that the decision was made by the investigating judge Suzana Mugoša.

This was the second time that his family guaranteed that Veljović would not run away if he was released.

The investigating judge of the High Court in Podgorica, Suzana Mugoša, rejected the first offered bail for Veljović's detention at the end of October.

His family then guaranteed his freedom with 585.000 euros in real estate.

Veljović was arrested on July 24 in Žabljak.

On the order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), he was handcuffed by members of the Special Police Department (SPO).

The prosecution accuses him of using confidential information to help the head of a criminal organization, Aleksandar Mrkić, to smuggle cigarettes. Allegedly, in the transcripts from Skaj, the prosecutors read that Veljović informed Mrkić that the police would search the premises of Mujo Nikočević, thereby benefiting him in his illegal business - cigarette smuggling.

He is suspected of two crimes - membership in a criminal organization and abuse of official position.

The former first police officer denied guilt, explaining to the special prosecutor that he was investigating Mrkić and his affairs, not helping him.
