Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković has delivered binding instructions to all state prosecutors' offices for dealing with cases of threats and violence against journalists, murder of journalists and attacks on media property, the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (VDT) announced.
The VDT said that the instruction, which was drawn up after a detailed analysis of current practice, obliges the state prosecutors' offices to urgently intensify work in cases formed on the occasion of attacks on journalists and media property.
"And the heads of the state prosecutor's offices that, in cases where investigations/investigations take an unreasonably long time, give written binding instructions to the acting state prosecutors," the statement says.
It is emphasized that managers are also obliged to request from the acting state prosecutors a detailed statement on the reasons for which the statute of limitations has occurred in cases where the statute of limitations has expired and to inform the Supreme State Prosecutor accordingly.
The VDT said that, according to Marković's instructions, acting state prosecutors undertake to direct the investigation and to actively cooperate with the injured parties during the proceedings and at the same time inform them of all the actions taken.
"Based on the instructions, the heads of the state prosecutor's offices are obliged to, after submitting the report on the work of the Commission for monitoring the actions of competent authorities in investigations of cases of threats and violence against journalists, murders of journalists and attacks on media property, submit comments to the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office within seven days on the recommendations of the Commission", the announcement states.
It is added that Marković appointed a coordinator for monitoring the implementation of the Instructions and cooperation with the Commission.
