LGBT Forum Progres submitted 83 reports to the Police Directorate of Montenegro for hate speech addressed to LGBTI persons in the public online space, this non-governmental organization announced.
"These reports are a response to the increase in negative comments that are spreading on social networks, which are posted under news related to LGBTI topics, public events of the LGBTI community or public appearances of LGBTI people," they added.
LGBT Forum Progres reminded that during the past decade of active work on monitoring public space, the Hate Speech Monitoring Team of LGBT Forum Progres submitted thousands of reports to the Police Directorate, which, they said, achieved the continuity of pointing out hate speech as a negative phenomenon. which is still ubiquitous in Montenegro.
"It is the continuous process of reporting hate speech directed at the LGBTI community that plays a key role in the fight against discrimination and creating a safe environment for all LGBTI people in Montenegro.
Bearing in mind the fact that hate speech is often the first step towards further jeopardizing physical security and violence against LGBTI persons, this process is still extremely important both for the integrity of the LGBTI community and for the development of society as a whole," the announcement states. .
In the coming period, LGBT Forum Progres will, through the monitoring of the public online space, continue its efforts to suppress hate speech against LGBTI people, the organization said, adding that it will adequately inform the public about the prevalence of this negative phenomenon and the effectiveness of the response of the key institutions of the system in to this process.
