The Council for Citizen Control of Police Work unanimously decided to support the recommendation of the Commission for Monitoring the Actions of Competent Authorities in Investigations of Cases of Threats and Violence Against Journalists, Murders of Journalists, and Attacks on Media Property - that the Government publicly announce and offer a monetary reward for providing reliable information that will help the final and complete clarification of the murder of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Dan" Duško Jovanović.
Zoran Čelebić, Aida Petrović, Prof. Dr. Dražen Cerović, Dr. Milena Popović Samaradžić and Prof. Dr. Branislav Radulović voted in support of the Commission's proposal, the Council News was told.
"Negative perception and skepticism, especially expressed in the earlier period, towards state bodies as a whole, through gradual political and institutional transformations are being overcome and could contribute to the police and prosecutor's office obtaining high-quality and reliable information important for solving this crime. Appealing to the public for help , as proposed by the competent and competent Commission, is not an uncommon practice in the democratic world. It could encourage especially witnesses and persons associated with them who hesitate to finally share information with the competent authorities," said the Council.
They recommended that a specialized special operational-intelligence program be gradually developed in the Police Department to help with arrests and other critical events.
"When solving complex crimes, identifying and prosecuting those responsible, through the use of public support in a given way, monetary rewards, it is important to take care of the reputation of the police organization and state authorities as a whole. Such an approach would be recognized by the Council as part of different strategies of police work in the community. The council recommends establishing a more visible, symbolic way of public praise for police officers who contribute to better police practice, solving crime and the safety of citizens," said the president of the council, lawyer Zoran Čelebić.
