The Prosecutor's Council decided, at an electronic session, to suspend the process of selecting state prosecutors in accordance with, as announced, the Law on Amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor's Office, which entered into force on June 19.
The announcement states that the selection process for three state prosecutors in the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office, four in the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, as well as the selection process for eleven state prosecutors in basic state prosecutor's offices at the level of Montenegro, has been suspended.
"Vijesti" announced at the end of May that instead of deciding which of the registered prosecutors will move to the umbrella prosecutor's instance, it is more certain that the suspension of that procedure from the summer of 2021 will soon follow if the provisions from the then Draft on Amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor's Office are adopted.
As the amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor's Office were adopted in the meantime, the suspension of the initiated proceedings immediately followed.
The process of selecting a state prosecutor in the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Kotor was also suspended.
"The Law on Amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor's Office stipulates that the procedures for the selection of state prosecutors who are advancing, the procedures for the selection of heads of state prosecutors' offices and the procedures for the selection of state prosecutors in the basic state prosecutor's office, which have not been completed by the date of entry into force of this law, shall be suspended by the force of law", says the statement of the Prosecutor's Council.
