The president of the Workers' Party, Maksim Vučinić, said that the verdict in the "coup d'etat" case gives hope that the judiciary in Montenegro "will finally become professional, without political influence or pressure from informal power centers."
"After decades of fighting against the criminal octopus, the dangerous regime of Milo Đukanović, in which many honest oppositionists, journalists, activists and citizens in general who did not put up with crime in power, selflessly sacrificed their lives, we have finally reached the day when to judge according to law and justice. Also, this verdict should be an incentive for further strengthening of the judiciary, vetting and creation of a better and safer institutional framework for all citizens in Montenegro," said Vučinić.
He congratulated Andrija Mandić and Milan Knežević for, as he stated, honest struggle, courage and determination.
Mandić, Knežević and the others were acquitted in the case known as "coup d'état", i.e. attempted terrorism on the day of the parliamentary elections in 2016.
The verdict was pronounced by the Council of the High Court in Podgorica headed by Zoran Radović.
