The President of Prava Montenegro, Marko Milačić, welcomed the verdict of the Council of the High Court in Podgorica, by which the leaders of the Democratic People's Party, Milan Knežević, and the New Serbian Democracy, Andrija Mandić, were acquitted of the charges in the "coup d'état" case.
"After years of fighting with corrupt personnel from the judiciary and an organized criminal clique from the prosecutor's office in a staged "coup d'état" process, a just decision finally followed. The verdict of the Council of the High Court in Podgorica, pronounced by judge Zoran Radović, confirmed what we have been in since from the beginning believed and constantly said that the accusations were unfounded and fabricated with the aim of politically discrediting Milan Knežević and Andrija Mandić," Milačić said.
The verdict, he adds, is another proof that the accusations were "part of a wider plan to damage the reputation and discredit the leaders of the former Democratic Front".
"And in the end, a single political, national, identity and value worldview, directly behind which stands the regime of Milo Đukanović, headed by his executors in the prosecution and judiciary, Milivoj Katnić and Vesna Medenica. We expect that the mastermind of the staged 'coup', his the organizers and executors will be adequately prosecuted and punished, and the current prosecutor's office will finally give up on this process in terms of appeals and other fraudulent actions," said Milacic.
He states that justice must be fully served to ensure that "such attempts at political persecution and discredit never happen again."
Mandić, Knežević and the others were acquitted in the case known as "coup d'état", i.e. attempted terrorism on the day of the parliamentary elections in 2016.
The verdict was pronounced by the Council of the High Court in Podgorica headed by Zoran Radović.
