The Police Directorate announced that a case was formed regarding the information about the alleged planning of the assassination of the former President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović.
It was decided, as they said, that for preventive reasons the security measures for Đukanović were to be strengthened, "in relation to which no further reduction of their scope was planned in the coming period".

"Certain media announced that a media outlet was informed by the office of the former president of Montenegro that the former president had informed Montenegrin competent authorities that he had received information that an assassination was being prepared against him.
"The Police Directorate announced in its previous address that the former President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, as well as 'certain international officials from the intelligence community' did not inform the Police Directorate of Montenegro 'that an organized criminal group from a neighboring country was allegedly planning to carry out an assassination, in conjunction with the security services of another neighboring country'.
"In this regard, we announce the following:
"In the period before, during and after the media announcement, the National Security Agency carried out international cooperation in order to check the received information.
"The Police Administration was not notified of the information in question upon receiving the information, as it was in the status of verification. After the media announcement, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in the afternoon, the Police Administration received the appropriate information from the Agency. We emphasize that the credibility of the information is still being checked by ANB.
"Immediately upon receiving the information, measures and actions under the jurisdiction of the police were taken, including notifying the competent prosecutor's office, and a case was opened in relation to the same.
"Regarding the above, bearing in mind the restrictions related to the protection of secret data, it can be announced that the Police, the Prosecutor's Office and the National Security Agency are taking further measures and actions within their jurisdiction in a synchronized manner.
"In this regard, while the procedure for determining the relevant facts and circumstances, including their credibility, is ongoing, a decision was made to strengthen the security measures of the former President of Montenegro for preventive reasons, in relation to which no further reduction in their scope was planned in the coming period, as reported by certain media."
