Traffic police officers, in the previous seven days, sanctioned 3.363 road users, the Police Administration announced.
It is stated that despite the increased frequency of traffic, as well as difficult working conditions and organizational problems caused by the lack of the required number of police officers, the Police Directorate and its organizational units are making great efforts in order to preserve the necessary level of safety in road traffic.
"For the past Sunday alone, police officers of the traffic police sanctioned as many as 3.363 road users, of which 2.937 misdemeanor warrants were issued, 426 misdemeanor reports were filed and 33 pairs of license plates were confiscated," the announcement says.
The police said that it is of particular concern that a large number of controlled drivers were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and intoxicants.
"Of which, the presence of 3,90 grams per kilogram of alcohol in the blood was measured in some drivers," the statement added.
It is stated that of the sanctioned drivers, 151 drivers were excluded from traffic and arrested for committing the most serious violations.
97 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 31 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of psychoactive substances, while 23 drivers were arrested for other serious offenses under the Road Traffic Safety Act.
The police said that despite increased police activities, frequent appeals, and requests addressed to drivers from the Police Administration, 161 traffic accidents occurred on the roads in Montenegro in the past week.
"Unfortunately, three people lost their lives, while 19 people suffered serious and 61 minor physical injuries," according to the police statement.
According to them, irresponsibility towards oneself and others, as well as conscious violation of traffic regulations, are the most common causes of traffic accidents and the very poor state of road safety.
The police administration points out that there is no objective and realistic possibility that traffic patrols will be present on all road sections in Montenegro, so that drivers, primarily due to fear of a possible fine, reduce their speed and adapt their traffic behavior to the existing environment, road conditions and valid traffic laws. regulations.
"In the coming period, police officers will try to exert even more influence with their work and undertaken activities on stopping the negative trend and prosecuting reckless and irresponsible drivers, in order to reduce traffic accidents with the most serious consequences," said the police.
They again appealed to road users, especially drivers, to contribute to their own safety, the safety of their fellow travelers and other road users through responsible behavior, and thus prevent traffic accidents that result in loss of life, bodily injuries, and major property damage. .
