Today, the Parliamentary Committee for Security and Defense will hear the directors of the National Security Agency and the Police Directorate, Boris Milić and Zoran Brđanin, about the actions of the security sector based on intelligence information that the assassination of the former president Milo Đukanović is being prepared.
The control hearing was initiated by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) in order to make sure that the competent security services are doing everything to protect the lives of protected persons.
The head of the Club of DPS deputies, Andrija Nikolić, said earlier at the press conference that the fact that the Police Directorate was not informed about the operational knowledge that the ANB had about the assassination of Đukanović being prepared, speaks of serious failures in the security sector.
Nikolić said that such a situation can favor those who plan to commit that crime.
As he stated, various Serbian and Russian agents infiltrated the security sector after 2020.
"And that logically contributes to the internal growing distance of Montenegro from NATO, but also to the undermining of internal security," added Nikolić.
He emphasized that poor coordination in the security system is unacceptable, adding that it is not serious that neither Prime Minister Milojko Spajić nor Minister of Internal Affairs Danilo Saranović spoke about the confusion between ANB and the Police Directorate.
The meeting of the Committee will be held in the Assembly building, in the room for consideration of classified materials.
On July 13, "Vijesti" announced that Đukanović had informed Montenegrin authorities that he had received information that an assassination attempt was being prepared against him.
"The former president received the above-mentioned information from certain international officials from the intelligence community, and with that information he informed the state authorities," Đukanović's office answered at the time when asked if anyone from the security sector informed him that his security was at risk, i.e. , that his assassination is being prepared.
It was not answered who and when Djukanović was given this information.
A source close to Đukanović said that a high-ranking foreign military official from Kosovo informed him that an organized criminal group from a neighboring country was allegedly planning to carry out an assassination, in conjunction with the security services of another neighboring country.
"According to Article 18 of the Law on the President of Montenegro, upon termination of office, the president has the right to permanent personal security in accordance with the security assessment determined by the competent authority, in accordance with the law. In accordance with the positive regulations, the National Security Agency is responsible for preparing reports on the security assessment of threats," the Police Administration announced at the time.
Answering the question of whether Djukanovic's security has been increased, his office has announced that it has been reduced.
"Changes in security in that period took place to the extent that security at the place of residence of the former president was abolished during the day shift".
They also pointed out that the Montenegrin security services did not call Đukanović or his security coordinator for an interview, in order to point out the potential danger.
On the 14th, the Police Directorate announced that a case had been opened regarding the information about the alleged planning of the assassination of Đukanović.
It was decided, as they said at the time, that for preventive reasons the security measures for Đukanović were to be strengthened, "in relation to which no further reduction of their scope was planned in the coming period".
