Illegal timber was discovered in Berane today at a wood processor from that town, the Directorate for Forest and Hunting Management announced.
The press release states that this morning around two o'clock in the grounds of the private company for the processing of wood assortments doo "Čukić compani", owned by Ljubiša Čukić, the inspector of the Security Department (OB) of Berana found a mass of wood, which was hidden inside the facility of that company, and which is secured by a concrete wall and high metal doors.
"The head of the Regional Unit of Berana, Živko Vukanić, received a phone call from the inspector of the OB Berana, Batrić Šoškić, about the discovered illegal materials, after which he immediately went to the scene with the available regional inspector. They determined that it was a quantity of 15,97, XNUMX cubic meters of net wood volume of conifers," the announcement states.
The Directorate for Management of Forests and Hunting Grounds said that the Basic State Prosecutor's Office (ODT) of Berane had been notified and that the case had been forwarded to them for further jurisdiction and action.
"The Directorate for the Management of Forests and Hunting Areas particularly welcomes the responsible and professional work of Inspector Šoškić and we expect that, thanks to indisputable evidence, the case will quickly receive an adequate epilogue, and the person responsible will be sanctioned in accordance with the law," the statement concludes.
The Directorate for Inspection Affairs (UIP) announced in connection with this case that in a joint action of the Police Directorate (UP) and the Directorate for Inspection Affairs, around two o'clock this morning in Berane, 15,967 cubic meters of logs (38 logs) were seized at the DOO Bazeni Čukic sawmill. who did not have a certificate of origin and who were not stamped.
"The felling in question was not reported to the Forestry, Hunting and Plant Protection Inspection by the Directorate for Management of Forests and Hunting Grounds. The Directorate for Management of Forests and Hunting Grounds PJ Berane was ordered to find the place of felling and store and keep the confiscated timber," the UIP statement reads.
