The recklessness, arrogance and cruelty of a man who, at the age of 19, is just at the beginning of his life, and who is ready to attack a police officer and seriously endanger his life, best illustrates the current direction in which Montenegrin society is moving, the Independent Police Union announced regarding the news that is a 19-year-old suspected of attacking a police officer in Žabljak.
The Independent Police Union said that for them, a blow to the head with a glass bottle was undoubtedly an attempted murder, and called on the prosecutor's office and the judicial organization to stand up for the community by consistently applying legal provisions and imposing maximum penalties, and citizens to raise their voices and say that there is enough violence.
"What can an ordinary, unarmed man who is not an official expect, if the one who is supposed to guarantee safety and security to everyone is attacked? Many are ready, we fear only declaratively, to assert that the policeman is the state. What can any peaceful individual in to this country if the country itself is attacked like this? It is high time that we all together, united and determined, make it clear to the criminals that Montenegrin streets are not wide enough for their selfishness, self-love and the undeserved presumption that they are someone who can do anything." it is stated in the press release of the trade union.
They pointed out that in Žabljak there were even two, as they say, attempted murders in the space of just a few seconds.
"The determination of the attacker to attack twice in such a dangerous and cruel way, to endanger two human lives while not caring at all about the consequences, is astonishing. It is very simple, there must be no extenuating circumstances in the form of the attacker's youth, possible alcoholism or something else. There is no justification for this and such an attack. The prevention measures, family and school education obviously do not succeed in cultivating certain people. Constant relaxation, mild punishment policy and the broadest possible democracy create a feeling of super power and untouchability in individuals," the statement said.
The trade union said that it is more than obvious that it is time for unpopular, but much needed, repressive measures.
"As a society, we are forced to defend ourselves against bullies, and only together, through the system and laws, can we stand in their way. We call, above all, the prosecutorial and judicial organizations to defend the social community by consistently applying legal provisions and imposing maximum penalties. We also call on all others citizens to raise their voices and say that enough is enough of violence, that we want peaceful streets and safe squares of our cities. Let's unite because this is the fight of all of us. As the great Njegoš would say: To put a foot in the neck of tyranny, to bring it to the knowledge of rights, it is the most sacred human duty," the statement concluded.
