The police filed a criminal complaint against AJ (46), the executive director of the NGO Center for Economic Prosperity and Freedom (CEPS) due to the suspicion that the funds in the amount of almost 105 thousand euros, which he received in January 2022 from the Ministry of Finance of Montenegro Gore also spent EU funds, contrary to their purpose, for personal needs, the Police Administration announced.
"Officials of the Sector for the Fight against Crime, the Department for the Fight against Corruption, Economic Crime and the Conduct of Financial Investigations filed a criminal complaint against AJ (46), due to the suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of unjustified obtaining and using loans and other benefits.
It is suspected that AJ committed the criminal offense charged against him in the capacity of the executive director of the NGO "Center for Economic Prosperity and Freedom" (CEPS), acting in the name and on behalf of the same, funds in the total amount of almost EUR 105.000, which he received in January 2022 from the Ministry of Finance of Montenegro and EU funds, in accordance with the contract, and for the implementation of the project 'Strengthening employment for local growth', contrary to their purpose, during 2022, he spent it entirely for personal needs," the announcement states.
The police said that he spent the reported funds by withdrawing money in cash, making transfers to his private account, buying crypto-currencies, paying personal bills, making various online purchases on the Internet, etc., how was he reported to the European Union, that is, to the budget of Montenegro, caused material damage in the total amount of around 105.000 euros.
"Officials of the Sector for the fight against crime continue intensive activities to suppress all forms of criminality and prosecute all persons who cause damage to the financial system of Montenegro with their business operations", the announcement concludes.
