The higher court in Podgorica issued a decision terminating the custody of the former director of the Police Directorate, Veselin Veljović.
Independent advisor for public relations of that court, Marija Raković, stated that the extra-judicial panel of the High Court passed a decision abolishing the detention along with the measure of supervision of the ban on leaving the apartment.
Thus, the High Court, after the Court of Appeal accepted the appeal of the Special State Prosecutor's Office and annulled the decision, issued a new decision by which the former director of the Police Administration was terminated from custody.
Veljović was arrested on July 24, 2023, on suspicion of divulging an official secret.
SDT believes that Veljović was a member of the criminal group of fugitive Aleksandar Mrkić, which was blamed for smuggling large quantities of cigarettes.
During his stay in custody, Veljović had serious health problems, which is why he was hospitalized twice.
The prosecution accuses him of using confidential information to help the head of a criminal organization, Aleksandar Mrkić, to smuggle cigarettes.
The indictment was brought against Aleksandar Mrkić, Veselin Veljović, Arsenij Kalezić, Muj Nikočević, Nikola Mrkić, Željko Bulatović, Dušica Bulatović, Predrag Veljić, Borislav Lečić, Nemanja Anđelković, Goran Gluščević, Nikola Bačilović, Sadig Elnagar, Nikola Bubanja and Stefan Bubanja.
