Foreign security services in the territory of Barcelona detected 14 members of drug clans from the territory of the former Yugoslavia and are determining whether any of them were in charge of taking over the last shipment of 2,3 tons of cocaine, which was seized in the port of Cartagena.
This is what a source from the foreign security service told "Vijesti", explaining that these associates of several drug clans have been connected with cocaine smuggling for years.
"They are in charge of accepting drugs," said the "Vijesti" interviewer.
Cocaine ready for the European market was found and seized a few days ago in the port of Cartagena by officers of the National Police of Colombia.
The container in which 2.386 kilograms of the drug was found was on a ship coming from the city of Paita in Peru, and its final destination was Spain, that is, the port there in Barcelona.
The newspaper's interlocutor from the foreign security service said at the time that they were investigating whether that shipment, as well as dozens of tons of cocaine seized a few months earlier, was connected to the Balkan drug cartel.
"The shipment was tracked from the moment the cocaine was placed in the container. The scheme is the same as in numerous cases up to now - a container for a liner with a pre-determined timetable and ports. We are determining whether any member of the crew of the ship that was supposed to bring the container to Barcelona was involved in the smuggling and, possibly, throw it away on the open sea, where it would be picked up by one of those we detected in Barcelona," said the interlocutor to "Vijesti". .
He pointed out that it was a "group" shipment.
"For several criminal groups that cooperate, and this can be seen from the markings on the packages of cocaine," said the same source.
The intoxicating drug was hidden in a coffee container, and the cocaine cartel also packed paraffin wax, to make it impossible for sniffer dogs to detect the shipment.
