The search for Alija Balijagić, the suspect in the double murder in the Jelopolje village of Sokolac, involved members of the Special Purpose Detachment of the Army of Montenegro, which, as announced by the Ministry of Defense, are equipped with the most modern equipment and means for carrying out night operations.
"The Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović, at the request of the Minister of the Interior Danilo Šaranović, proposed to the Council for Defense and Security the adoption of a Decision for the engagement of members of the Special Purpose Detachment and made a decision yesterday on the use of helicopters of the Army of Montenegro, in accordance with the authorizations, in the search operation for a person suspected of double murder, which happened in the village of Sokolac in the area of Bijelo Polje. Members of the Special Purpose Unit of the Croatian Armed Forces were engaged to provide support to colleagues from the Police Directorate in this complex operational task, and the operators of that unit are equipped with the most modern equipment and means for night operations," the Ministry of Defense announced.
As it is an inaccessible terrain, engaged helicopters of the Air Force of the Army of Montenegro are equipped with thermal imaging cameras and means that enable the identification and tracking of persons in conditions of reduced visibility.
"The army will, if necessary, engage additional forces on the ground, and tomorrow the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, Brigadier General Zoran Lazarevic, together with members of the VCG toured the forces engaged in the operation. The Ministry of Defense and the Army of Montenegro, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other competent institutions, are taking all necessary measures to locate the suspect as soon as possible and bring him to justice, and to ensure that the citizens are safe," the statement reads.
